This is the annual conference for Honors programs and colleges in the Upper Midwest region. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to present research, participate in panels and roundtables, and visit Vermillion's cultural attractions. State meetings and the annual regional meeting will be held.

Our conference theme is To Be Determined: Honors in an Uncertain Time. For nearly two years, we've been living in a constant state of To Be Determined. We add TBD to invitations, event announcements, trips. Is this temporary or a "new normal" for the foreseeable future? How do we plan for TBD? How has TBD affected the way we do things in Honors? How has TBD affected our institutional contexts? How have Honors programs risen to this TBD moment to give our students good experiences in and out of the classroom? We'll explore these ideas and more when we gather in Vermillion in April.

“Beginnings: New Approaches in Creative Writing, Literary Studies, and Pedagogy”

Please join us September 28–30, 2023 for the 1st biennial Vermillion Writing and Literature Conference at University of South Dakota in Vermillion. The 2023 conference theme, “Beginnings: New Approaches in Creative Writing, Literary Studies, and Pedagogy,” looks with hope to possibilities for new voices, ideas, forms, and projects in the literary arts. VWALC’s panel sessions and public readings will address these and other overlapping concerns. Email vermillionconference@usd.edu with technology requests for your presentation.

Conference participants are invited to join us for lunch on Thursday, Friday and/or Saturday. Participants are also invited to the Conference Banquet on Friday September 19. Meals may be purchased by marking the appropriate boxes during registration.
